What is RSS?
By The Eye Magazine published 27 January, 2012 No CommentsRSS, which stands for “really simple syndication”, means you can stay in touch with many different sources of news and information. Rather than having to revisit a site several times a day to check for new entries or headlines. All you need to keep up to date is an RSS Reader, you probably already have one on your PC and don’t even know it!
About RSS readers
An RSS reader is a special software programme which automatically checks for new content and downloasd the content from the web-site you subscribe to. For example if you subscribe to our RSS Feed you will receive notification of new news headlines or stories and events every time they are published to our website. You can then click through and read the stories which interest you. To receive these updates the you must subscribe to the site by adding a feed to the reader. (look for the logo above)
Adding Feeds
The way you add RSS feeds differs from one feed reader to another. But normally, you copy the URL of the feed (from the address bar on your browser) and paste it into the feed reader. Clicking on the above logo will normally take you to the FEED page.
Getting RSS feed reader software
You probally already have a RSS reader and not even know it. Many email programs have a RSS reader built in, for example Windows live mail, Outlook Express and Outlook have a FEED option which you can simply paste in the RSS feed url and that program will display the new feed. If you don’t already have an RSS reader on your computer, they can easily be downloaded for free from the internet. Once you have it on your computer you can add or remove RSS feeds of your choice.
Keeping up to date with news and stories couldn’t be easier. Remember to add our RSS Feed to your subscriptions. http://www.theeyemagazine.co.uk/feed/atom/
