Queen Celebrates Diamond Jubilee
By Eye Magazine published 6 February, 2012 No CommentsMonday the 6th February 2012 marks the day Elizabeth II celebrates 60 years on the throne as the queen of England.
Queen Elizabeth II (aged 85) was coronated on the 6th February 1952 aged just 25 years old after the death of her father King George VI.
Celebrations will stay fairly quiet today as the queen continues her formal royal duties in Norfolk, close to her Sandringham home.
Celebrations for the Queens Diamond jubilee will take place over the weekend of the 2nd & 3rd of June, with two bank holidays following this on the 4th & 5th to create a 4 day series of celebration which will involve a fleet of 1,000 ships on the river Thames and celebratory gunfire at the tower of London & Hyde park.
Official celebrations for the Diamond jubilee take place just over a year after second in-line to the throne Prince William (HRH Price of Wales) married Miss Catherine Elizabeth Middleton on the 29th April 2011.
During the Diamond jubilee celebrations the royal family will look back over the entire reign of Queen Elizabeth II and also celebrate the recent recovery of her 90 year old husband Prince Phillip who underwent surgery over the Christmas period to clear a blocked heart artery.
During her 60 years on the throne the queen has visited 116 countries and witnessed 12 different Prime Ministers run the UK.
