Seventy Five Blades Handed In After Knife Amnesty

By published 10 February, 2012 No Comments

Seventy five bladed items were handed in during a local knife amnesty which took place in the Redcar and Cleveland district.

From Friday 20th January to Monday 6th February, residents in the areas of Redcar, Guisborough, Eston and South Bank were encouraged to hand in any bladed items that they did not wish to keep in their homes.

The collection of bladed items includes combat-style knives, swords and a home-made knuckleduster.

Chief Inspector of Operations, Geoff Bush, said, “Whilst we do not have a specific issue with knives in the Redcar and Cleveland district, we decided to run a local knife amnesty which would encourage anyone with any bladed items that they no longer wish to have in their possession to hand them in so that we can dispose of them correctly and safely.

”We’d like to thank all members of the public who took part in the amnesty. Handing in these items now means that a number of potentially dangerous items have been taken off the streets.”
