Gardens venue offers development chance
By Redcar Cleveland Council published 16 February, 2012 No CommentsOperators are being sought to take up potential business opportunities at the popular Saltburn Valley Gardens venue.
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council is aiming to lease out the cafe, woodland centre and former nursery, with offers invited for the entire site or as separate lots.
The 45,100 sq ft site is being marketed as a significant development opportunity for retail, business or tourism ventures.
The timber-framed café, which dates back to the 1900s, has both indoor and outdoor dining areas.
The woodland centre provides space for exhibition and educational resources, while the adjoining nursery land stretches to a third of an acre.
The Council launched a business review of the site last year and decided to go out to the market after receiving several expressions of interest from organisations wanting to take the facilities on.
Councillor Mark Hannon, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Leisure and Tourism, said: “The Valley Gardens have long been a popular feature of Saltburn and we have already had a number of people express an interest in operating these facilities in the future.
By offering this opportunity to the market, we hope to ensure that the venue can continue to benefit the local community, as well as visitors, for many years to come.
The closing date for tenders is Friday, March 9, at noon. Community asset transfer applications will also be welcomed.
An open morning for any interested parties to view the site takes place on Friday, February 17, between 9am and noon. Anyone wanting to attend should call into the café.
Anyone wanting further information about the opportunity should contact Christopher Black or Brendan Harford, at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, on 01642 444360 or 444365.
