Green tourism scheme boasts star quality
By Redcar Cleveland Council published 16 February, 2012 No CommentsAn environmentally-friendly holiday cottage designed to bring tourists flocking to one of the region’s stunning beauty spots has opened for business.
Entrepreneur Paul Bartram has transformed a former agricultural building at Bousdale Farm in Pinchinthorpe, near Guisborough, into quality self-catering premises.
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council gave Mr Bartram business planning advice and secured a £27,700 grant from the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE), helping him complete the £120,000 project.
And the three-bedroomed cottage – close to the popular Guisborough Forest and Walkway Centre – has now thrown its doors open to walkers, mountain bikers and horse riders hoping to explore the spectacular local countryside.
The accommodation boasts the very latest green initiatives, with heating from a biomass boiler which burns waste wood from local businesses – turning material that would have gone to landfill into energy.
It has already secured a five-star rating from Enjoy England and is hoping for further recognition from the Green Tourism Business Scheme and the Access for All initiative.
Mr Bartram said: “The cottage offers a fantastic, eco-friendly base for visitors to explore the area’s attractions and I was delighted to receive the financial support in helping the project get going.
”
Councillor Mark Hannon, the Councils Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Culture, Leisure and Tourism, said: We are delighted to have been able to play a role in getting this innovative business off the ground.
“Increasing the amount of quality holiday accommodation in the area is a major part of our efforts to attract more visitors.
