Recycling made clear!

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council has issued a reminder to residents over the type of sacks to be used for recycling.

Several residents have recently put plastic and cardboard out for collection in charity bags.

However, the authority has stressed that these materials can only be collected if they are in any transparent sack or any carrier bag.

Plastic and cardboard in a black sack, charity sack or any non-transparent sack will not be taken.

Good quality clear sacks can be purchased from council buildings, libraries and tourist information centres at a cost of £2 for a roll of 50.

Council Leader George Dunning, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “Our crews cannot collect materials for recycling by going through charity bags which have been left out in the street.

“That would not be right and these bags could be re-used by the charities for their own important work if they are simply left out empty for re-collection.”
