Prior Pursglove College is again celebrating another excellent set of A level results with 79 A* grades awarded. The college is delighted to announce an overall pass rate of 98% on A level courses and 100% success for National Diplomas and Certificates, with over 70% achieving a distinction grade.

The college’s consistently high results will help to ensure that it maintains its position within the top 7% of colleges in the country for getting students to university, according to the Sutton Trust report of 2011.

Several subjects in the STEM area (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) performed particularly strongly, with over half the students taking these subjects achieving A or B grades. Media Studies and Film Studies both showed huge increases in the number of high grades, as compared to last year. 355 students were awarded two or more high grades overall.

Principal Judy Burton said: “I am particularly delighted with the excellent results in these subject areas bearing in mind our current investment in brand new state of the art facilities for these subjects. Investment in STEM in especially vital to the prosperity of the North East and the Tees Valley and I’m pleased that the college is contributing so significantly to the development of these important high level skills.

Several star students achieved outstanding results. Martin Blake (ex Redhouse School) achieved A* grades in Maths, Further Maths and Physics and an A grade in Spanish, Rebecca Bennion (ex Fyling Hall School) achieved three A*s in Biology, Maths and Chemistry, Matthew Brown (ex Acklam Grange School) achieved A* grades in Maths and Chemistry and A grades in Biology and Further Maths. We have one of the most open access policies of any college in the country and these results are a testament to the commitment, skill and hard work of all our staff and students.”
