Senior Officer Takes to Twitter

By published 22 January, 2014 No Comments

Social media fans are invited to follow the first of Cleveland Police’s Chief Inspectors to take to Twitter.

Chief Inspector Dave Lamplough, Local Policing Area Commander for Middlesbrough, has just opened an account and would like to build up his follower numbers.

Chief Insp Lamplough was inspired to tweet after reading residents’ interaction with some of the Middlesbrough neighbourhood police teams’ social media sites and realised this was an excellent way to reach out to the town’s communities, to learn of any concerns and to pass on key messages from police:

“The benefit of real time appeals and passing on performance information and key messages to the communities cannot be underestimated.

“Twitter will also allow me to follow the hard work carried out by police teams and other partners working to make Middlesbrough a safer place.”

With his account only recently opened, Chief Insp Lamplough added that he hoped to gain a wide following so he can communicate with people he would not normally get the chance to speak to and to help with his role as Local Policing Area Commander for Middlesbrough:

“I also want to engage with the public and partners to influence community safety priorities and to ensure that all agencies are working together to solve problems and achieve sustainable solutions.  It will also help us feedback results.”

Residents, as well as community leaders, local councillors and colleagues from partner agencies are encouraged to follow Dave and the town’s neighbourhood policing teams (East Middlesbrough, University, Middlehaven, Gresham, Coulby Newham and Ayresome) on Twitter:

“I would like to get to the stage where all key community leaders, local councillors and partners are following me and our neighbourhood teams in Twitter so we can develop an information network for Middlesbrough.”
