WARM UP NORTH ENERGY SCHEME OFFERS REDCAR & CLEVELAND RESIDENTS FREE GREEN DEAL ASSESSMENTS

By published 11 February, 2014 No Comments

NORTH EAST residents are set to benefit from more energy efficient homes this winter as the UK’s largest energy efficiency initiative offers 50 free home energy efficiency assessments for the Government-backed Green Deal scheme to those living in Redcar and Cleveland.

To mark the start of the NEW YEAR, Warm Up North, which is endorsed by nine North East councils including Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, is offering 50 households in Redcar and Cleveland a free no obligation custom Green Deal Assessment to find out how they could make their homes more energy efficient.

Available on a first-come first-served basis, the complimentary Green Deal assessments, which would usually cost £99 each, will offer homeowners expert impartial advice from a certified Green Deal Assessor along with tailored recommendations to help increase the energy efficiency of their home.

Following an assessment, residents are able to choose whether or not they want to implement the advice and arrange the installation of recommended measures. If they choose to proceed, Warm Up North will be happy to help arrange any required work, including boiler replacement, cavity wall insulation, external wall insulation, heating systems, loft insulation and PV solar panels – all of which are installed by local Green Deal approved companies.

Warm Up North also offers flexibility in how installations are paid for, including access to Green Deal Finance which enables qualifying households to repay the cost of the work through the savings made on their energy bills, eliminating any upfront payments.

Jon Kershaw, Head of Operations at Warm Up North, said: “With most people having recently made new year’s resolutions, now is the time for many to think about making an energy efficiency resolution. We’re delighted to be able to offer a no obligation Green Deal assessment completely free of charge to the first 50 people who apply in each local authority area including in Redcar and Cleveland.

“The key benefit of Green Deal is that you not only get energy efficiency advice tailored specifically to your home and lifestyle, but you could also use Green Deal Finance to pay for the improvements without paying any upfront cost. You may even get some additional cash back through the government’s Green Deal Cash Back offer.

“Through our partnership with nine of the region’s local authorities, including Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, we are looking forward to helping even more residents to benefit from comfortable homes and more affordable energy bills in the long-term.”

Councillor Lynn Pallister, Cabinet Member for Housing and Neighbourhood Renewal, added: “These free assessments are a great opportunity for householders who want to make their homes warmer and reduce their energy bills, but are not sure what measures their home needs.

“Warm Up North is a great scheme that will ultimately help thousands of homes across the North East to stay warmer at less cost.

“Even if you don’t qualify for some of the free measures that are available you can still make your home warmer at no upfront cost through the Green Deal, and pay for them from the savings on your energy bills.

“This is particularly important at a time when energy costs continue to rise and we have more households in need of assistance than ever before.

“The scheme will also help to create employment opportunities, benefiting local contractors and creating apprenticeships in partnership with local SMEs, as well as training opportunities, particularly helping the long term unemployed and young people not in education, employment and training, which is fantastic news for the area.”

The free Green Deal assessments are offered on a first-come first-served basis to the initial 50 people to apply who live in each partner area, including Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Newcastle, Northumberland, Redcar & Cleveland, South Tyneside and Sunderland.
