School Pupils To Learn The Value Of Apprenticeships

By published 24 February, 2014 No Comments

Hundreds of school pupils are set to descend on Redcar & Cleveland College next week to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week.

Teenagers will be able to try their hand at engineering, sport, nail art and construction skills when the college opens up its doors to students, parents and employers.

Coast and Country Housing, Tees Components and TTE Technical Training Group will be among those on hand to offer advice and guidance about Apprenticeship opportunities to young people who are preparing to leave school.

All of the college’s own curriculum areas will also have stands and equipment on show, where school pupils can put their skills to the test in order to discover unknown interests and talents.

Andy McLaughlin, Redcar & Cleveland College’s Director of Recruitment, Marketing and Business Development, said he hoped the event next Tuesday (Mar 4) provides pupils with valuable experience.

He said: “Apprenticeships are an excellent way for young people to gain experience, obtain new qualifications and earn a wage, so we wanted to share our knowledge and expertise with young people who are soon to be leaving school and considering what to do next.

“Pupils will be able to come in and have a look around the college, talk to employers and tutors and have a go at some of the courses we offer here, such as construction skills, health and business admin.

“Hopefully, they will find out about Apprenticeship vacancies that are available and what employers are looking for. It’s an opportunity for young people to boost their employability skills and expand their post 16 choices.”

More than 300 students will be attending the event throughout the day.

There will also be an evening event between 5pm and 8pm for both pupils and their parents, with further opportunities to meet local employers.
